back in the saddle

Urghh... I've been away from the Internet for exactly a week, and there are currently 44, count'em 44 unread blog posts in my Google reader right now. I'm going to work on chipping away at that unreal number until 12:45, when I have to go to work. But for now, here's my week in a nutshell.

- My sister graduated high school. She gave a speech. And I was like, MY BABY'S ALL GROWN UP AND SAVING CHINA!

- I went to see Toy Story 3, which we all know is officially The Greatest Movie Ever Made (no seriously, I don't know if there have been any negative reviews of it except for these two douchebags). The experience was so uniquely Pixar. Half of the time I was laughing unabashedly and obnoxiously. The other half of the time I was a whimpering, moist-eyed mess (I don't let myself cry in movie theaters anymore because I cause a real scene). Those of you who have seen it can probably relate. I had to think about all sorts of inappropriately hilarious things and fan my face vigorously to keep myself from bursting into tears.

- Remember when I got all excited about finding people to play D&D with? Well, on Saturday we started creating our characters and we had maybe a little too much fun with it. Matt's character is an eladrin wizard who wears a prosthetic beard loaded with razor blades (because eladrin can't grow beards, what's up with that?), Jewel's character is an elf ranger with "ginormous knockers," and my character is a halfling rogue with a Napoleon complex. Also, that was officially the nerdiest sentence I have ever typed. Scotty gets off a little too much on being Dungeon Master, I think, as he kept on saying things like GOD DIDN'T SAY YOU COULD CHOOSE YOUR AT-WILL POWERS YET, DID HE? I think we may have created a monster.

- We celebrated Father's Day lounging around the house, doing nothing, as per my dad's request. He wanted Father's Day to be about conserving money and resources, and so we didn't go out to eat or go shopping or anything like that. We all just went about our normal Sunday, which for me meant attempting to clean my room but then just falling asleep for several hours instead.

- I have successfully made it through another week of being incidentally vegan, and I've learned one very important thing:

  1. The only D&D character I've created thus far is a goth human druid who likes to dress in black leather and wear raven feathers in her hair. All our chars had to be human b/c it was an urban campaign, but the DM (who I didn't really know) annoyed the crap out of me, so I bailed after just a few sessions.

I really want to play an Eladrin Ranger...

Also, Hummus + Pita does indeed = awesome!

  2. Ha ha...44? I have 586 right now, and that's after spending most of my afternoon whittling it down. I like to have a bunch, but I don't feel the need to empty it out more than once a year or so.

  3. @Kara - That sucks about your DM, it really does make all the difference. We haven't even started playing yet, just making characters, so we'll see how the group dynamic plays out, I guess!

@Ronnica - Wow, 586? Dang...I guess I don't have much to complain about, do I? I just had never had that many unread posts EVER, so it seemed really overwhelming.

  5. BULLET LIST MANIA BULLET LIST MANIA

Alright, so now that I have that out of my system, congrats on your sis's graduation. I'm sure China will be happy.
Also about finding people to play D&D with. I have always secretly wanted to because, for some reason, I think that that it will force me to throw inhibitions to the dogs and make myself a better actor. HMM.

Also... Google Reader. Why, why, WHY have I not thought about that before?

    Loving the pita/hummus diagram.

  6. Recently, I took a weeklong break from all media and came back to 300+ unread posts in my Google Reader, which was frightening. I'm currently sitting at 167. 44 sounds divine. ;)

  7. Hummous ftw! When we were in Toronto, we met up with a friend who took us to a kosher restaurant in his neighbourhood - authentic hummous is nothing like i've ever tasted! Delicious!

Also, re your previous comment on my blog asking for details - we met at work and he's just ... *sigh* =D he may, quite possibly, be The One =D

  8. Super venn! Hummus + pita = nice in the tummy :)

I really should use Google Reader, I think it would solve a lot of life's problems if I did. Well, at least make me more organised! That's on my 'sort out' list for the weekend.

Can't wait to hear more about your D&D!!

  9. I didn't think it was possible to like you more, and then you went and quoted Mulan. Oh. My. Gosh. My brother and I say that line all the time about anyone who makes us proud...love it!

And don't kill me, but...I just can't get into hummus. Everyone I know loves it, I know all about which ones are good and which pairs well with what pita...I just don't like it myself. I so wish I did, because I feel like I'm missing out on greatness! haha
